Position Summary: Supervises and serves as coach and educational resource to other Cancer Registry staff as well as participates in the daily operations of the Cancer Registry. Responsible for maintaining the cancer-related data collection system while adhering to the standards of accreditation and disease-reporting agencies. Responsible for the identification, retrieval and reporting of neoplasms, coding, abstracting, and enter clinical and demographic information into the cancer registry database. All eligible cases are accessioned into the Registry within 6 months from the date of initial diagnosis or within 6 months of date of first contact. This will be monitored through the generation of a monthly Suspense list and through the review of 10% of all cases. Assists in maintaining lifetime follow-up on all patients accessioned into the METRIQ database with a reportable neoplasm and in trending aggregate data to assist in facility and medical community strategic planning, research initiatives and quality improvement activities. Ensures physician compliance with AJCC Staging requirements. Acts as the liaison between the Commission on Cancer (CoC) and the Holy Redeemer Hospital Cancer Program, and holds responsibility for assuming compliance with the CoC and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) standards specific the Cancer Registry activities. Assists in the preparation of the Cancer Program Annual Report. Conducts quarterly QA reviews of abstracting, case-finding and follow-up duties. Coordinates and monitors quarterly physicians 10% QA Review. Coordinates registry quality control activities, information requests, quality improvement studies and research projects as requested. The abstracting and coding data will be performed according to the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) standards using ICD-0 and AJCC Cancer Staging criteria. The registrar will prepare and submit data to the National Cancer Data Base, internal quality reviews, state audits, patient outcome studies and other related duties as assigned. The Certified Cancer Registrar attends and participates in all cancer related committees and meetings, including Cancer Committee, Oncology Quality meeting, Professional Education meeting, Tumor Board, Breast Program Steering Council and Community Outreach. The Certified Cancer Registrar will perform associated duties via the Electronic Medical Record. Assists with Requests for Data from the researchers, physicians and administrators. The Cancer Registrar performs duties in support of the Medical Center mission to ensure the highest quality of patient care in an economically sound and efficient manner.
Recruitment Requirements:
Education: A.S. in Health Information Technology or B.S. in Health Information Management.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in a Cancer Registry operations or highly-relevant clinical experience.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: Registered Health Information Administrator, or Registered Health Information Technician preferred and Certified Tumor Registrar required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of data coding, American College of Surgeon's FORDS and PCR manual, ICD-0 coding, and Cancer Staging (AJCC, Collaborative and summary staging system). Requires the ability to read and interpret medical terminology and apply coding skills utilizing knowledge of anatomy, physiology and disease processes. Advanced level of experience with computers, Excel, Access, Power Point, Microsoft Office and cancer registration software is required; experience with computerized encoders is preferred. Proven ability to create spreadsheets with formulas, statistics, percentages, and data mining with an understanding of basic statistical methods. Must possess excellent organizational/analytic skills and follow through with the ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to independently research and solve complex data quality problems, compile reports, and assist with special projects as required.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
